Rownan is a paranoid people-watcher who skulks through rooms. Their expressions are very muted; they often seem tired or uninterested.

VISUAL

Rownan is tall, scrawny, and dresses entirely in black. Their skin and hair are pink; their eyes are an uncannily bright green that can seem bioluminescent, especially in low light. To humans, they may look unnaturally, or unnervingly, beautiful. They are androgynous and can be reasonably perceived as any gender; Rownan will respond to any assumption as if it is correct.

OLFACTORY

Rownan uses rituals and physical materials in much of their magic. Their room is strung up with dried herbs, interesting rocks, pressed flowers, and drying plants. Accordingly, they smell like grasses and herbs and dirt.

AURAL

Their voice is quiet and androgynous; unless riled up or in a moment of urgency, they speak slowly, as if every word is carefully selected. Their inflections are minimal.

PHYSICAL AFFECTION

Physical affection, no matter how minimal, may incur immediate violence of the magical defense variety from Rownan; she will think she is being attacked. She would be awkward or angry afterwards.

Rownan is physically weak but magically adept. Your character might get that first hit in, but she'll rip their soul from their body.

RELATIONSHIPS

Rownan is not a romantic. If your character flirts with her, she'll just be uncomfortable at best or take advantage of their poor taste at worst.

PSYCHIC/PSIONIC/MAGICAL INFORMATION

Rownan is a necromantic specialist with a specific focus on manipulating the necrotic energy dying souls create. She draws from her own reserves as well as the reserves of anyone who allows her to establish a necromantic link to them.

Rownan is, accordingly, heavily warded against any soul magic via a series of tattooed and scarified glyphs along her spine. By default, any magic that intends to get inside her body or mind in any way will not work and she will be aware of any failed attempt.

MEDICAL INFORMATION

Rownan is, technically, dead. Her body both works and inexplicably does not.

Rownan is the reincarnation of god who, upon death, split itself into three pieces so that its enemies could not kill it as it had time to regroup. Her soul feels like a fragment, because it is; accordingly, many of Rownan's abilities are dramatically nerfed in jamjar due to their separation from their party members, who make up the other two thirds of that soul.

NECROMANTIC SPECIALIST

Rownan's necromancy draws directly on her own reserves. When she pushes past the limits of what she can channel, she will begin draining her own lifeforce. It looks gross when she starts dying, and she will be exhausted and in pain afterwards, but she is incapable of traditional death (or sleep).

Soul. Rownan can 'catch' a soul to rip it apart to steal its life force or fuel her magic. Rownan can speak to ghosts, and often assists them in passing on in exchange for allowing her to use the resulting necromantic energy that comes from destroying them.

Siphoning. Rownan can drain the lifeforce of another living creature; this is the only way she can heal herself or others. Through a necromantic link, she can siphon a living creature to fuel her magic (if the link is reciprocal, another magic user can do this to her, too).

Corpses. Rownan can manipulate necrotic energy to animate, shape, and control corpses and bone.

BACKSTORY

Rownan was born the youngest of three siblings to a Fae family in the Dark. She had an innate magical ability, but her family could not afford a tutor, and her abilities did not progress beyond minor manipulations. She often spoke to spirits or animals, though her family regarded her as entertaining imaginary friends. She was an odd, emotionally muted child, prone to fits of violent tantrum.

At the age of ten, unbeknownst to her, her elder sisters, Marielle (17) and Nís (20), joined a death cult. In order to bind their pact to the cult's god and secure their ascension into the ranks of these immortality seekers, Marielle and Nís killed their mother, father, and Rownan in a ritual sacrifice.

In death, Rownan was offered a choice when a patron came to her with an offer: serve Death in maintaining the balance of the underworld, and he would grant her life and a power so she may one day find and claim revenge against the assailants who killed her family.

She bound herself to this patron, Chaos, and served as an Avatar of Death for the next fifteen years.

MEETING THE PARTY

At the age of 24, she met Riot while he was drunk in a tavern.

Their interaction lasted no more than an hour. Riot gambled his soul on a game of cards. When he lost, Rownan invited him up to her room, killed him, and collected his soul.

No more than a year passes before she meets Trouble Clef, traveling performer. By this time, Rownan's reputation as an The Gloomstrider, an Avatar serving Death, proceeds her, and Trouble seeks her out to strike a deal. In order to escape a life term contract, she asks Rownan to kill her and harvest her soul.

Rownan, of course, takes the easy job and kills Trouble.
